Home made bike rack.

You will need the following parts to complete your rack.

-Fork mounts (Available at your friendly LBS)

-One 2" X 8" piece of wood

-Four 1/4" X 1" Bolts

-Four 1/4" washers

-Small bottle wood glue (optional)

Tools include a saw, drill with 3/16" bit, tape measure, pencil, small wrech and preferrably sometime of alcoholic beverage.

Measure and cut the 2 X 8 to the correct length. I chose the 2 X 8 as it has adequate width and space for the mounts.

With the Yakima mounts that I purchased, they include a template for drilling the holes. I outlined the mount on the wood, and then used the template to mark the site for the pilot holes.

Use the 3/16" drill bit for the pilot holes. The screws only penetrate approximately 3/4" into the wood, so no need to drill all the way through.

Once you have the holes drilled, you can put two drops of wood glue (optional) in to the holes to make it a (semi) perminant rack. Put the washer on the bolt and thread it throught the mount. Once the bolt gets started, use an appropriate size wrench to tighten it down.

The finished product - CannonWHALE on board.
